Socks on Double Point Needles There are four key parts of sock knitting that can improve the wearability of your socks: an elastic cast on, a durable heel, a neat-looking gusset along the heel, and a well-grafted toe. Socks are also a great way to learn how to knit in the round and pick up some tricks to minimizing the loose stitches as you move to a new needle. But be warned – socks are addictive; once you start sock knitting, you may never want to be without a sock project again.
